Pick Optimal Filter is a plugin that provides a new trigger for the advanced sequencer in astronomy image acquisition software N.I.N.A. - Nighttime Imaging'n'Astronomy.
This trigger called "pick optimal filter" will automatically figure out the best time of night to use one of the filters from a filter wheel defined in the trigger based on the altitude of the sun below the horizon.
A common use case is when shooting for the HOO palette: it's best to photograph oxygen data during the darkest part of the night (around midnight) and then it's fine to photograph hydrogen data around the twilights. The plugin will automatically decide when to shoot with each filter and switch to it on its own so it simplifies the sequence itself as well removing the need to define multiple loops and "switch filter" instructions.
